You can get free advice and support if you're trying to get a foot on the career ladder. It might be help with a job search, advice about further training opportunities, support with an application or preparation for an interview.
Here are some organisations that offer free career advice and support to young people in Sheffield.
1. Opportunity Sheffield – employment support
- 1:1 keyworker support in community locations across the city – help to find a job, apprenticeship or training and short engagement courses to build your confidence
- Community Youth Hubs for 16-24s at Heeley City Farm, Crystal Peaks, Autism Plus and Manor & Castle Development Trust.
2. Sector Routeways: Early Careers
- Three-week Early Careers employability course for 16 – 24-year-olds, who are not in employment, education or training.
- Discover career options and receive support to take the next step into a job, apprenticeship or training
3. Sheffield Futures
- Sheffield Futures can help you look for training, education or work.
- Support includes an employment coach, help with your CV and job application and preparation for interviews.
4. The Prince's Trust
- The Trust offers courses, enterprise initiatives, mentoring opportunities. They also have an office in Sheffield.
- Register online to get one-to-one support, both in-person and online.
5. National Careers Service
- Personalised information and advice including a skills assessment, career profiles and phone support from an adviser.
- Includes support with job applications, CVs and interview tips.
6. Sheffield City Council - Youth Services
- Free support if you are 15 to 19, have left school or college but are currently not in a form of education, employment or training.
- Career staff can work with you to understand your situation and offer tailored support.
7. Sheffield United Community Foundation
- Available for 16-24 year olds. Open to young people on Universal Credit - referred from the Job Centre.
- Support also available to young people who are not on Universal Credit. You can contact the Youth Hub directly.
8. Sheffield Wednesday Community Programme
- Like the SUFC Youth Hub, you can be referred from Job Cente, or approach the Youth Hub directly.
- The Sheffield Wednesday Community Programme will give you a career guildance meeting and create personalised action plans.
